Final Blog

I am very pleased with the amount of information I have learned in this class. I knew little about the various ways to incorporate technology into my lessons before this class and I now feel confident in presenting a lesson plan to an administrator. Creating personalized websites, cover letters, and other web technologies will help me to attract future employers. This has been one of the most informative classes I have had at Meredith and I will be sure to implement the content into my own classroom. I never thought that technology would be that important in an art classroom since so much is done by hand, but I have found all of the resources to be beneficial to the art curriculum. I was able to incorporate NC Art education Standards in WebQuests, blogs, digital stories, vokis, wordles, and various other resources. During my learning experience I also got the chance to promote myself with a personalized brochure, cover letter, and website. Even when I thought I was familiar with a certain technology, I still found something that I didn’t know before. For example, I have worked with Prezi a couple of times before, but never knew how interactive they could be in a lesson. I can’t wait to implement these resources in my future classroom and I am very confident that they will help my students reach their learning potentials. 


Blog 3

As I said in my previous blog, I would use blogging to keep students and parents up to date. If students need clarification on a certain project, they would be able to find it on the blog, or ask other students on the blog site. I feel that the blog would promote student independence by relying on each other rather than on me.

Animoto, goanimate, and voki are all web resources that allow you to communicate messages through, photos, animations, or avatars. These resources would be very helpful when students needed to present information about famous artists, certain art periods, or terms. Animoto is a site that allows you to create a musical slideshow of your photos. This resource might be helpful to students who need to present many illustrations to the class. I feel that there are already ways to create slideshows on your computer, but this resource makes it easy.  Goanimate is a site that allows you to put together animated videos. I could use this to present information to the class in a unique way and students could do the same. The website claims that this resource is used for,  Student-to-Student Tutorials, Foreign Language Training, English as a Second Language (ESL) Training, Communication & Special Cases, such as Autism, Asperger’s, etc., Behavioral Training (Healthy Living, School Safety, Anti-Bullying), Counseling and Therapy, Creative Writing Platform, Teaching Principles of Art, Design, and Storytelling. The only negative is that I would want my students to illustrate their own stories instead of using already made images. Voki is a very interesting way to present information. You create an avatar to relay your message, and the mouth moves as if it were really speaking. This might be a great resource for students who do not feel comfortable speaking in public and need some time to adjust to the classroom environment before speaking in front of others. Out of these three resources I feel that Voki is the most interesting way to present information, but sometimes it can be a little creepy. These resources would be great for presenting information in a flipped classroom, and might help students to feel involved in the lesson.

Storybird is another resource that I have worked with, similar to the ones above, in that it tells a story through imagery. I am very interested in all of these resources, but I would only use them for an art history unit, or allow students to use them to present information. I would rather have my students practicing their fine motor skills on actual original artwork than on premade images. It would be very interesting to have them draw a story and upload it to something like Animoto for a presentation. I’m sure I will find other ways to use it in my classroom, as it is a valuable teaching resource.


Blog 2

I would use my blogs for students to access resources inside or outside of class. Some of the resources I noted in my previous blog might be helpful for ESL and special needs populations. The “Hear Names” resource would help those students with pronunciations. Also, the “every stock photo” resource might be helpful for AIG extension research projects, as they will need photos for presentations. The blog would also serve as a classroom outside of the classroom, where students could post comments and ask questions for feedback. I will also provide resources specific to the unit we are studying, like practice quizzes and study guides.

From , I chose under Instructional Videos and Video sharing and Pinterest under online collaboration. I am familiar with Pinterest and have used it in one of my courses. By making a group for the class, students can pin ideas and inspirations on our board. This type of collaboration might spark ideas throughout the classroom and I can moderate what kind of examples I am looking for. The bad thing about Pinterest is that there is sometimes graphic content, and I wouldn’t want my students to be exposed to anything inappropriate. is a unique story telling resource that would be helpful for student or teacher presentations. It might distract students from the actual thought of presenting and help them focus on the interactive quality of this resource. The downside to this site is the lack of video choices. When creating a video the options are very limited.

We learned a bit about smartboards and their interactive quality in the classroom. I thought they were just a bigger version of a computer, but I have found that they really invite students to interact with the lesson. There are lessons specifically made to use with smartboard and I feel that they would make students want to learn instead of having to learn. I have found an interactive Monet website that I would really like to use in one of my lessons. 

Blog 1

Wordle and Tagexdo can be great study tools for my students. By inserting vocabulary into these resources, my students will have a visual reference for all the words they need to remember. Since they are decorative I will ask the students to paste them into their sketch books or binders for additional exposure.

The authors of these blogs all have teaching backgrounds or associate with the education system. Knowing that these authors have experience teaching helps me to justify using these blogs as reliable teaching resources.

I found Richard Byrne’s “Free Technology for Teachers” blog to be the most helpful in finding ways to easily incorporate more technology in my classroom.  I learned that there is an endless supply of free technology resources online. Instead of wasting money on resources for a single lesson, I can easily find free resources for a variety of lessons.

Free Technology for Teachers

These are some examples of the types of resources I might use in my classroom.

The first is an alternative to Google images called “Every Stock Photo”. This will save time in the creation of my presentations because it is a site purely for photos.

“Hear names” is a pronunciation resource for my students. Some artist names and art terms have difficult pronunciations and this resource will make it easier for my students to communicate effectively in critiques and discussions.

Under the tab “favorite resources” I found a downloadable list of 77 web resources, some of which are similar to the resources we use in web technologies. I downloaded these resources on my computer for future use.


This first assignment has exposed me to many great blog sites specifically for teaching. I have had experience with wordle in past classes, but I have now found that tagexdo is my preference. The “every stock photo” resource is extremely helpful for me as an artist and a teacher.
